Kate Hudson had some romantic company for her 29th birthday on Saturday, as she celebrated her big day with Owen Wilson in Miami.

Hudson joined Wilson, 39, and his parents for a lunch at Lario's on South Beach Saturday afternoon. "The four of them sat away from the crowds and had a blast," says a source at the restaurant, which is owned by Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio Estefan, Jr. "Kate and Owen looked very happy and were talking up a storm to Owen's parents."

Following their meal? A birthday cake of course! "They asked for a tres leches butter cake soaked in milk with a candle in the middle," says the source.

By nightfall, Hudson – who came to Miami on a break from shooting Bride Wars in Boston – stepped out with Wilson and some of Kate's girlfriends, as they kept the party going with dinner at Ago at the Shore Club. The lovebirds then walked hand-in-hand to Skybar at the Shore Club, where they lounged and partied poolside on a bed. The pair chatted with each other, shared kisses and "were very sweet looking, it was super lovey-dovey," according to one onlooker.

Wilson remains in Florida shooting Marley & Me with Jennifer Aniston and Eric Dane.

Heading the list of PEOPLE's 100 Most Beautiful People is a 29-year-old mother remarkably short on her beauty sleep – for which she lovingly credits her active 4-year-old son.

The beautiful, sleep-deprived mom? Kate Hudson, PEOPLE reveals in its special issue, which goes on sale Friday.

Was she always such a head-turner? Admits the actress: "I was a tomboy. I had three brothers. I was the girl with the dress on that always came back in the house filthy with scrapes and bruises. But I was always very girly. I had to be able to twirl so that my underwear showed."

Her best time for looking good, she says, comes "at the end of the night, when everything's soaked in and I'm still up. I like the leftover makeup in the morning. You've got to wash your face but there's always the leftover eye makeup, I love that."

Despite a flurry of engagement rumors, Kate Hudson and Owen Wilson – Hollywood's most notorious on-again, off-again couple – have called it quits, less than two months after rekindling their romance in Miami.

The end of their erratic courtship (they began dating in September '06) comes amid erroneous reports that the pair were engaged, fueled by photos of Hudson wearing a Tiffany & Co. ring (it was a prop!) both on-and-off set of her film Bride Wars, which she's filming in Boston.

"It was a pretty bad breakup," says a Wilson pal. "Owen said it was a tough one. He definitely doesn't want to dwell on it. He wants to put it behind him."

Since the split, Hudson, 29, and Wilson, 39, have each been spotted letting loose. On May 9, Hudson and Bride Wars costar Steve Howey, 30, visited Boston's Liberty Hotel bar, Alibi. And on May 11, Wilson dropped by N.Y.C.'s Upstairs with two women.

"He was pretty chummy with the ladies ... he was certainly doing some sweet talking," according to an onlooker. "He looked happy to be there hanging with them." The late-night outing was followed by a visit to Butter the next night, where he chatted up a sexy blonde. Says a Hudson source: "She feels dumb thinking it was so serious."

Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong may have been spotted together over the past month in getaways as far apart as Texas and France, but the actress doesn't want to talk about that.

Opening up about a relationship "only causes more problems and more words taken out of context," Hudson, 29, told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show Monday. "Everything is always misconstrued."

Not that discussing other males wasn't all right with Hudson, whose Seacrest appearance was to help promote pal (and celebrity hairstylist) David Babaii's WildAid hair products.

"My main priority in my life is my son," said Hudson, referring to her 4-year-old, Ryder.

Yet as far as anything remotely revolving around the cycling champ, Hudson said only, "It's better to let ... people speculate as much as they want to speculate."

Kate Hudson may be reluctant to chat about recent romances, but there is one man about whom the star is not shy about gushing – ex-husband Chris Robinson.

"We can talk about Chris till the dogs come home. I married Chris, I had a baby with Chris, Chris will be in my life for the rest of my life," Hudson, 29, says in the September's W magazine.

"It's so hard for me, because I'm so open, to hold back. I could really just go on forever about this stuff," she says. "But everything else – I've learned that things are better left private until you're actually planning the wedding."

Hudson also talks about her ex in terms of her son, Ryder, now 4. "We iChat with Chris constantly," she says. "No matter what is going on in my life, relationship-wise, Chris takes absolute precedence. It's important for Ryder to hear me say how wonderful Chris is, and how much Chris misses him."

With turning 30 on her horizon next April, Hudson says, "Am I gonna look back and say, 'God, I wish I could have gone to that ... concert?' I'd rather be listening to my son sing songs. I'd rather be watching him sleep."

Kate Hudson will don her dancing shoes as she joins Nicole Kidman in the movie musical Nine, a studio rep confirms.

Hudson, 29, who plays a fashion magazine reporter on assignment in Italy, has musical moves in her genes: mom Goldie Hawn was a go-go dancer on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. An original song, "Cinema Italiano," was added to the film's lineup for Hudson.

Rob Marshall, who will direct the adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical, calls Hudson's skills as a singer and dancer "revelatory."

Hudson, who has spent the summer hanging out with new beau Lance Armstrong, starts shooting in the U.K. in October.

Her costar is new mom Kidman, who gave birth to daughter Sunday Rose on July 7.

Lance Armstrong and Kate Hudson have already spent time with each other's kids. On Tuesday, the couple kept their relationship all in the family by hanging out with her mother.

Casually dressed in a gray Nike T-shirt and matching pants, the cycling champ, along with Hudson and her mom, actress Goldie Hawn, met for a late lunch Tuesday afternoon at Ivy at the Shore in Santa Monica, Calif.

The trio, along with an unidentified male, arrived just before 2 p.m. They got some privacy from fellow diners and the throng of paparazzi camped out front by sitting on the patio at the back of the beachside restaurant.

"They looked like they were having a great time and enjoying each other's company," says an onlooker. "Goldie was all smiles. Lance was sitting next to her and they were chatting while Kate was laughing. They were all just really happy."

A tanned Hudson, wearing a long turquoise halter dress, sat on the other side of her beau during the intimate lunch. At the end of the meal, the group left together through the front entrance.

Lance Armstrong and Kate Hudson are certainly spending some quality time together.

The seven-time Tour de France winner and the actress were spotted in Austin on both Friday and Saturday nights. First, the pair dined at Eddie V's, a high-end restaurant frequented by Armstrong, according to a restaurant insider.

"They came in [Friday] and had dinner together, it's true," the insider tells PEOPLE.

The next night, Hudson, 29, and Armstrong, 36, ate at the casual Hula Hut with the athlete's three children and a group of friends. "They came in with the kids and a large group of people," says another restaurant source. "They ordered dinner – tacos, burgers and fries and that sort of stuff."

Asked if the pair looked romantic, the source merely said, "They looked like they were having fun."

Hudson and Armstrong were also in the same place on Thursday: Both were spotted in New York at the Wildwood Barbeque restaurant at the afterparty following Kid Rock's Madison Square Garden concert.

Hudson, who has been filming Bride Wars, recently called it quits with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Owen Wilson. Armstrong was most recently linked with Ashley Olsen.

Armstrong's rep had no comment. Hudson's rep does not comment on clients' personal lives.

Early life

Hudson was born in Los Angeles, the daughter of Academy Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, an actor, comedian, and musician.^[2] Hudson's parents divorced eighteen months after her birth; she and her brother, actor Oliver Hudson, were raised in Colorado by her mother and her mother's long-time boyfriend, actor Kurt Russell.^[3] Hudson has stated that her biological father "doesn't know me from a hole in the wall", and that she considers Kurt Russell to be her father.^[4] Hudson has described her mother as "the woman that I've learned the most from, and who I look up to, who has conducted her life in a way that I can look up to".^[5] She has three half-siblings, Emily and Zachary Hudson, from her biological father's subsequent marriage to actress Cindy Williams, and Wyatt, from her mother's relationship with Kurt Russell. Hudson is of Hungarian, Italian, and Ashkenazi Jewish descent,^[6] and was raised in her maternal grandmother's Jewish religion;^[7]^[8] her family also practiced Buddhism. Career

Hudson's breakthrough role was as Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous (2000), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.^[3] She had previously appeared in the lesser-known films Gossip, a teenage drama, and 200 Cigarettes, a New Year's-set comedy with a large cast of actors. Regarding her early career and success, Hudson has noted that she is a "hard worker", and did not want to be associated with her well-known parents, wishing to avoid the perception that she "rode on somebody's coattails".^[3]

In the 2002 Hudson starred in remake of the historical romance The Four Feathers, a film which was not well received by critics or audiences. Her next film, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, a romantic comedy, became a big success at the box office, grossing over $100 million after its February 2003 release. Hudson subsequently appeared in several romantic comedies, including Alex and Emma and Raising Helen; the films met with varying degrees of success.

Hudson headlined a thriller called The Skeleton Key in 2005. The film, which had a production budget of $43 million, enjoyed box office success, grossing over $91.9 million worldwide ($47.9 million in North America).^[9] Her later film, a comedy titled You, Me and Dupree and co-starring Owen Wilson and Matt Dillon, grossed $21.5 million on its opening weekend of 14 July 2006.^[10]

In 2007 Hudson directed the short film Cutlass, one of Glamour magazine's "Reel Moments" based on readers' personal essays. Cutlass co-stars Kurt Russell, Dakota Fanning, Virginia Madsen, Chevy Chase and Kristen Stewart.^[11]

In 2008, her latest film, Fool's Gold, was released on February 8th. This romantic comedy is her second film to co-star Matthew McConaughey. She had been certified in scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef for the movie's underwater scenes. Her latest film, another romantic comedy entitled My Best Friend's Girl, will be released in September.

It was recently announced that Hudson will appear in the highly anticipated movie musical Nine alongside the likes of Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench, among others. The film, directed by Rob Marshall, will be released in the fall of 2009.

Personal life

In 2000, Hudson married Chris Robinson, the frontman for The Black Crowes. They married on New Year's Eve in Arlington, Colorado. Hudson gave birth to their son, Ryder Russell Robinson, on January 7, 2004. The couple lived in a house that was once owned by director James Whale and traveled together during Hudson's film shoots or Robinson's music tours.^[3] On August 14, 2006, Hudson's publicist announced that Hudson and Robinson had separated. Rumors swirled that the reason was Hudson's affair with Owen Wilson on the set of You, Me and Dupree.^[12] On November 18, 2006, Robinson filed divorce papers, citing "irreconcilable differences".^[13] The divorce was finalized on October 22, 2007.^[14]

After she and Robinson separated, Hudson publicly dated Owen Wilson, her You, Me and Dupree co-star. However, the two broke up in May 2007. In May of 2008, she began dating Lance Armstrong, however the couple split in July. ^[15]

Hudson has also said that she does not enjoy seeing herself on screen, specifying that she "gets cold... shakes and... sweats" when watching her performances for the first time.^[5] In July 2006, Hudson sued the British version of the National Enquirer after they had stated that she has an eating disorder and described her as "painfully thin." Hudson said that the tabloid's actions were "completely inappropriate" and a "blatant lie," and specified her concern relating the impressions about weight that she feels the tabloid could have on young girls.^[16]
